Further to this earlier post, I offer some more of my personal favourites from Jeffrey Kacirk’s Forgotten English

Comstockery: excessive opposition to, or censorship of, supposed immorality in art or literature; prudery. From the name of Anthony Comstock (1844 – 1915), member of the New York Society for the Suppression of Vice.

Poosk: to search for vermin on a person.

Furk: to expell; to be ‘furked’, to be expelled; Winchester School Glossary.

Poothery: muggy, sultry; spoken of the weather.

Pulicosity: an abundance of, or being full of fleas.

Dapperling: a dwarf.

Superchery: deceit; cheating; an old word of French origin.

Vastation: purification by destruction of evil impulses.
